SUBMIT A PROGRAMUpcoming Events:The Essential Role of Consultation The Counseling Center staff's role as a consultant on campus is one of the most essential roles that they can have. In this session, an Assistant Vice President and Counseling Center Director discuss the various ways that both upper administration and counseling staff can best take advantage of this essential function. Presenters:
Lynn Braun (she/her) has 30 years of experience working in the field of mental health. Over half of that experience has been in collegiate mental health settings, with the rest of her experience coming from community mental health and secondary schools. She served as the Assistant Dean for Campus Wellness, Director of Counseling & Accessibility Services at Defiance College for eleven years, and has been the Director of Counseling Services at SUNY Oswego since January, 2023. She has been on the Board of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD) since 2020 and is currently serving as President. Her experience and interests are in improving the development of college counseling centers and their directors, and in helping centers highlight why they are essential to the campus community. She’s been especially focused in college counseling centers' impact on retention management. She works with campuses to help them create comprehensive, campus-wide strategic plans to positively impact campus mental health and wellness through a diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice lens.
Dr. Warrenetta Crawford Mann is a highly experienced and impactful leader with over 25 years dedicated to organizational leadership development, personal psychotherapy, and executive leadership coaching. Currently serving as the Assistant Vice President for Health and Wellbeing at Wake Forest University, Dr. Mann provides strategic oversight for health and wellbeing initiatives, demonstrating her commitment to the holistic development of the university community.
REGISTEREssential: Data and Counseling Center Work Data are a vital tool to design effective services for college counseling centers and advocate for student needs. This webinar will: 1) orient participants to the breadth of data sources available to them; 2) explain how data can inform counseling center best practices; and 3) outline ways data can be used to advocate for supports and answer complex questions regarding student needs. Presenters:
Cindy Bruns, PhD is the Director of Counseling at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. Prior to becoming the director in 2017, she was the training director for the center's APA-accredited doctoral internship in health service psychology. She has experience working in counseling centers with enrollments ranging between 1,000 and 10,000 and is an accreditation site visitor for the American Psychological Association. Cindy also serves at the Survey Coordinator, non-voting member of the AUCCCD Board of Directors, and liaison to the Center for Collegiate Mental Health Advisory Board.
Dr. Brett E. Scofield earned his Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Wichita State University in Clinical- Community Psychology in 2006 and has devoted nearly his entire career to collegiate mental health, working as a clinician and administrator within multiple university-based counseling centers over the past 21 years. He currently serves as the Associate Director of the Penn State Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), as well as the Executive Director of the Center for Collegiate Mental Health (CCMH), a national research center that includes a network of over 850 college counseling centers. Dr. Scofield has played a significant role within CCMH for the past 11 years, contributing to numerous publications on the topic of college student mental health and helping the Center develop several tools that are widely used by college counseling centers nationally to advocate for services. In addition, threat assessment and management are a particular passion of Dr. Scofield’s, having served on the Threat Assessment Teams at two major universities since 2012. REGISTEREssential: Counseling Center Training Programs Training programs are essential not only to the sustainability of university counseling centers but also to the broader field of collegiate mental health. This webinar highlights the critical role of training programs in enhancing access to care, improving client outcomes, and supporting workforce development. The session will also address key considerations for implementing various types of training models within counseling centers. Presenters:

Mark Sampson, PhD (Association for Counseling Center Training Agencies - Past President) Dr. Sampson is currently the President of the Association for Counseling Center Training Agencies, transitioning to Past-President in November. He received his Doctorate Degree in Counseling Psychology from The Ohio State University. He has been in the role of Director of Training at OSU Counseling and Consultation Service since 2018. Prior to returning to OSU, he was the Clinical Director at Grand Valley State University and Director for Training at the University of Michigan. He also has a private practice in Columbus, Ohio. REGISTERThe Essence of Outreach and Why it's Essential in College Mental Health Explore outreach as a clinical intervention and mechanism for cultural-shifting strategy. This session blends AUCCCD position paper insights with AUCCCO Board perspectives to redefine outreach as essential for fulling the counseling center mission with emphasis on prevention, equity, and belonging. Presenters:
Gary has over 27 years as a college counseling center professional, most recently retiring from the Director role at Oxford College of Emory University. He has also served as an associate director for outreach at Duke University, as training director at Georgia State University, and staff psychologist at Boston University, in addition to offering consultation and training to various centers. He served as a member of the steering committee that founded the Association for University and College Counseling Center Outreach (AUCCCO) and is an active member of AUCCCD, currently serving on their Board of Directors.
Kimberly “Kim” Martin, LCSW, is the Associate Director of Outreach Services at the University of Miami Counseling Center, where she has served since 2010. With over two decades of experience in the mental health field and 15 years in higher education, Kim leads prevention and education efforts across three campuses, blending clinical expertise with strategic outreach innovation. She is the founder and advisor of COPE peer education program, which she developed in 2010. Under her leadership, COPE has grown into a nationally recognized model, supported by a vibrant alumni network and a reputation for high-impact programming. Kim maintains strong partnerships with key campus stakeholders including Athletics, the Dean of Students Office, Title IX, Housing and Residential Life, and the President’s Campus Coalition on Sexual Violence Prevention and Education, which she has co-chaired since 2015. Her collaborative work ensures that outreach efforts are inclusive, trauma-informed, and responsive to the evolving needs of the university community. Kim has presented nationally on peer education program development and outreach strategy at conferences including NASPA and AUCCCO. She currently serves as President of AUCCCO and has held roles on its Board of Directors since 2017 including roles as Treasurer and President-Elect. Kimberly also co-chaired AUCCCO’s Mentorship and Consultation Committee for nearly a decade, supporting professionals in finding their place and purpose within the field. Her approach to outreach is grounded in authenticity, mentorship, and joy. Kimberly is a passionate advocate particularly for working parents in higher education and is deeply committed to fostering inclusive spaces where both students and professionals can thrive.
Dr. Teresa Michaelson is the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. She is a licensed Mental Health Counselor and holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education, bringing over 28 years of experience as a mental health practitioner. Before joining Rollins, Dr. Michaelson served for more than five years as Director of Counseling Services at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. She began her higher education career in 2007 at the University of Central Florida, where she spent over twelve years as Director of Outreach and Prevention at UCF Counseling and Psychological Services. Dr. Michaelson is an active leader in the field of college mental health. She currently serves on the Board of the Association of University and College Counseling Center Directors (AUCCCD). She has also held multiple leadership roles with the Association for University and College Counseling Center Outreach (AUCCCO), including Treasurer and President, and now serves as President Emeritus. Her expertise has been featured in national and local media, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, and the Orlando Sentinel. She has published on topics such as college mental health, neurodiversity, and outreach, and frequently presents at national conferences on these and related subjects. REGISTERRevisiting Alignment in Clinical Services: Balancing Expectations and Reality Counseling centers are facing increased pressure to meet student needs while working with limited resources. In this workshop, the presenters will encourage reorientation towards aligning services with the resources provided by our campuses and leaning on our expertise about service models, treatment, and outcomes while contributing to a healthy, coordinated ecosystem of care on college campuses. Dr. Daniel Paredes, the 2025-2026 President of the Association for the Coordination of Counseling Center Clinical Services (ACCCCS), is a clinical mental health counselor and supervisor with extensive experience in university counseling centers and private practice. He holds a PhD in Counseling and Counselor Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he also earned his MS in Community Counseling. He is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor-Supervisor (LCMHC-S) in North Carolina. Dr. Paredes has held academic appointments as a counselor educator and clinical supervisor. In a non-clinical professional role at the National Board for Certified Counselors and Affiliates he worked on credentialing programs for counselors in the United States and three Latin American countries. He has co-facilitated workshops for community-based mental health paraprofessionals in Singapore and Mexico. Dr. Paredes has served in leadership roles in both state and national professional organizations over the course of more than 20 years as a clinical mental health counselor. David Walden, PhD (Hamilton College - Emeritus)Hello! I am an emeritus member of AUCCCD, having recently "retired" after 26 years in higher education. In higher ed, I worked in three very different contexts- mid-sized public, very large public, small private- in a variety of roles, and served as a consultant to institutions varying in size from 1,500-30,000. My work now is a small private practice focused on providing spaces for reflection, reconnection, and meaningful transformation. I bring over two decades of experience supporting individuals and systems to help create safe, soul-centered spaces where people can realign with themselves, their work, and one another. Whether in therapy or consultation, I strive to meet the complex things we navigate with clarity and heart.
